Metal Embossing.

Metal Embossing is the art of achieving high and low relieves in special laminated metals.

Vestiges of this art comes from ancient times, when domestic and ornamental objects were made of

metals such as gold, silver and copper. These metals were laminated by heating and then hammering.

Naturally, the tools back then were few and primitive.

One of the most appreciated techniques of Metal Embossing is "Icon" making. Icons were used to

represent a sacred image and the painted figures were covered with laminated metals that were embossed

to create the movement of the robes, legs and arms and to reproduce the ornamental details of the

crowns and backgrounds.

Since 1989, Mercart SA has been working with this art, that has successfully been adopted in Mexico

and all of Latin America. Mercart USA is looking forward to developing the same awareness and

wide use of such technique in the US.

Since 2001 we have achieved surprising results by combining both the decorative painting and the

embossing techniques. Together, they can enrich projects with volume, movement

and texture never seen before.

Mercart USA  offers the widest variety of special laminated metals, metal embossing tools, varnishes, patterns and magazines to develop the Metal Embossing technique.

We have been in the Arts & Crafts business in Mexico since 1970. We started operations in the USA in 2002, and we were the first company in this country to offer the  Metal Embossing Tools, which are proudly manufactured in Mexico with the highest quality. Our Professional line of Tools have polished metal handles and the finest materials for the tips: brass and teflon.    

We are also committed to teach the "know how" and years of expertise through our monthly Intensive Metal Embossing Workshops, and now we also have Videos available for all levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced.
